What started as a concept earlier this year is actually coming to fruition as a real retail product this December. The Cowon S9 will retain all the proposed specs; sleek body, curved back, 3.3″ AMOLED touchscreen display with 16 million colors, 500Mhz DUAL CORE CPU (hello!), T-DMB, bluetooth, FM radio, voice recorder, dictionary, USB 2.0, T.V. out, and tilt sensors. Hardware wise - it’s a win. Now lets see the interface. If it passes that, the only thing holding it back is price but knowing Cowon, it’ll be surprisingly affordable.

You’ve been down too long in the lost-bits sea! Tom Murray’s Ring Driver’s got all the bits you need attached. See what I mean? Superb simplicity for college students or people on the move; people who only need the bits necessary for those easy-to-contstruct furniture pieces who’d love to have it all in one solid hand-held tool.

With a simple “innovation of the screwdriver” goal in mind, Tom Murray took time to explore many different drafts of new and “memorable” screwdriver models. What he came up with was what it often turns out to be in these situations; that is, the most simple-seeming concept.

While the long-skinny aspect of a normal screwdriver is gone, this Ring Driver has no more blunt a nose than a power-screwdriver has. Some of the drafts show the handle being detachable, allowing for more bits to be added or subtracted from the ring, allowing for different sets for different jobs.

Barring the inability to choose which color I can get: on my belt it would go.

For best results position yourself at traffic lights, railway stations or air hangers. Subtly wait for the opportune moment (which is precisely 7 seconds before the initial point of acceleration) and attach the product as firmly as possible to the host vehicle (a brief run up usually does the trick), paying attention to ground clearance for ones feet and enjoy the ride…

Like the designer, I’m sure, I’ve broken my share of wine glasses, and I don’t even really like wine! I usually put whiskey and coke in there, then I don’t find the whole glass until spring cleaning. For the wine enthusiast (or drunk) with short shelves or clumsy tendencies, it’s untrained designer Sherwood Forlee to the rescue!

The designer, Sherwood Forlee, puts it like this: “glasses that are separable from their stems for more compact storage, and a metal stem for enhanced strength. A rubber gasket safely and snugly links the glass that fits your drink choice with the stem. Stems are available in a variety of colors and finishes.”

Simple and beautiful. I’d like a set with red/yellow/green color combo stems made of steel. Extra heavy metal would be extra awesome.

Also be sure to check out Forlee’s webpage: he’s a real dude with a barely completed mathematics schooling who “calls himself a designer because it sounds hip and no one likes hanging around a nerd at a party.”

My kind of fellow.

“GoGreen” is the new phrase that seems to echo around the world. With many joining the bandwagon, it shows that many of us are trying to make a conscious effort to adapt to a more sustainable lifestyle.

You can charge your cell, your Mp3 player or a number of other electronic gadgets by plugging in to the tree. With its’ 57 photovoltaic panels, the sun can power your tree during the day - no water needed. The solar energy is stored into a battery, allowing you to plug up anytime you need to. Gadget cables and adapters can be hidden away beneath the trees’ “soil”. Definitely a decorative way to go green!

I’d wager if chronic disaster survivors had a choice of where to lodge, they’d choose what’s actually called the Recover Shelter. With several components that make it eco-friendly, cheap to produce, easy to transport, reconfigurable, and adaptable to multiple environments, Matthew Malone’s design has great potential for emergency situations and beyond…

Designed for disaster relief, the Recover Shelter can house a family of four for a month. It can be set up by one person in minutes, collapsed into either of two configurations for transportation (horse-shoe shape or flat), and is made of 100% polypropylene.

The polypropylene makes the Recover Shelter 100% recyclable, the ridges can collect drinking water, and the structure can be covered in local materials for better insulation.

A wonderful giant accordion house to for those who are disaster ridden, or a super-hip tent for the super-hip green hipster-camper.

That green bandwagon is speeding down the global highway at break neck speeds and corporations are rushing to hop on. That’s the good news… the other good news is that electronics giant Siemens is looking for ways to make bold and beautiful green statements with these cordless telephone designs. Siemens Home and Office Communication division commissioned design firm Formwelt with guidance from Hans-Henning Brabänder to dream up these ultimate green phones for the home or office.

The “Gigaset Eco Visions” “Leaf” and “Solar” are made of recyclable raw materials, such as eco-plastic and liquid wood. Sun-light is used as a natural energy source for handsets. An eco-index provides the “nutritional facts” regarding the environmental-friendliness of each phone.

This includes the percentage of organic materials and number of components used at disassembly, the energy consumption and emissions in use and production as well as the how recyclable each product is. So much more relevant info on all the ways this design is innovative below.
